Preston O. Evans

Preston O. Evans, 86, of Stone Mountain passed away December 27. Funeral services will be Friday, 1:00pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. The family will receive friends there starting at noon Friday. Preston was born and raised in Elmore County, Alabama where he attended school and helped his father on the family farm. At 18, he joined the US Navy during WWII where he served as a cook in New Guinea. After the war, he attended and graduated from Auburn University. He later joined State Farm insurance company in Atlanta and retired as a Claims Supervisor after 29 years of service. He joined First Baptist Avondale Estates with his family in 1958 and remained a lifelong member. He served as deacon and trustee as well as other positions of service during his time there. Preston was preceded in death by his wife, Winona Macon Evans, and sister, Lavelle Evans Hagwood. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Evans Butler, sons, Randy and Ken Evans, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
