On Sept. 26th, Mr. Ralph Dallas Abernathy, loving husband, father & grandfather passed away. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart and positive outlook on life. His life was long and filled with many accomplishments. Working since the age of 10 years old and helping with 1 younger brother, his work ethic was formed at an early age and continued for the next 60 years. His thirst for knowledge and education was a driving force. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy & was honorably discharged as a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class. This led him to pursue an education at Mercer University (Southern College of Pharmacy) where he graduated top of his class receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. After graduating, he worked for and managed Jacob's Pharmacy. This led him & his wife to open their own businesses "Glenwood Pharmacy", "Abernathy's Pharmacy" & "Abernathy's Apothecary" which they ran for many years. It was in the early '60's that he also became interested in aviation and pursued his pilot's license. After receiving his pilot's license, he purchased his first Cessna airplane and became a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association. Flying seemed 2nd nature and was something he shared with his daughters for many years. Their early morning flights over Stone Mountain or short trips to Savannah or Jekyll Island will always be remembered. His life was also a faithful & spiritual one as he enjoyed many years as Deacon of his church, Parkwood Hills Baptist. It was this faith, in combination with his strong will, which enabled him to face and overcome several battles with cancer and other obstacles throughout his life. He enjoyed 63 loving, wonderful years of marriage to his wife, Anne Guerin Abernathy, who preceded him in death. He will be greatly missed & is survived by two daughters & sons in-laws, Ellen & Brian Dougherty, Linda & Jeff Borchert & grand-daughter & husband, Megan & Hieng Souksavanh. A.S.
