Ralph Doud Whaley

Ralph Doud Whaley, age 78, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

He was born in Nashville, TN to Mary Doud Whaley and John Hickman Whaley, Jr. Both of his parents and brother, John Hickman Whaley III, preceded him in death. Ralph is survived by his wife, Claudia Whaley; close friend, Peggy Brodsky; sister, Julia Aden; daughter, Carole Haich; and son, Ralph Doud Whaley, Jr. Laura and Rachel Haich, Alex, Katie and Dani Whaley all called their loving grandfather Papa.

Everyone who knew Ralph was aware of his love of cars. Even before he could drive, he was building intricate models of vintage cars. After attending Vanderbilt University, Ralph moved to Atlanta and began working on cars as a machinist. He also worked for many years with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association, SVRA, as Chief of Tech. He always had a great racing story to share. His family and many friends will greatly miss his sense of humor and caring nature.

Family visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10th, from 4:00 – 6:00, at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Forsyth County Humane Society, www.forsythpets.org.
