Ralph H. King

Mr. Ralph H. King, 93, of Decatur died Saturday, March 21, 2009He was born on November 30, 1915 to Charles Chester King and Jessie Sullivan King.  Mr. King was a graduate of Oglethorpe University. He was a teacher and coach at Nelson High School in Nelson, GA.   He served as Athletic Director at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA in 1940-1941. In 1941, Ralph married Louise Bennett of Ft. Gaines, GA.  They would have celebrated 68 years of marriage in June.  In 1942 Ralph joined the U. S. Navy and was discharged in January of 1946 as a Lt. Jr. Grade.  He was employed with the Veteran’s Administration from 1946 to 1952.  He then became a Certified Life Underwriter and was a salesman for Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company for 30 years.  Mr. King was a longtime member of Decatur Presbyterian Church.  He served as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Deacon and an Elder, and he also served one term as a Moderator of the Atlanta Presbytery.  Mr. King is survived by his wife Louise; nieces, Rachel King Parris and her husband YC, Carolyn King Larson and her husband Danny; nephew, Dr. Philip King and his wife Susan; and two great nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 24th at 10:15 A.M. at Decatur Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Decatur Presbyterian Church.  Dr. Todd Speed will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Decatur Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 205 Sycamore St., Decatur, GA 30030.
