Ralph Lamar Gazaway, Sr.

Ralph Lamar Gazaway, Sr., age 85, of College Park, Georgia and Daytona Beach, Florida, died August 23, 2005 in Atlanta, after a brief illness. Funeral services in Atlanta will be Friday, August 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia with The Very Reverend William Deneke officiating. Interment will be at the College Park Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service at the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, Florida will be held in September. Mr. Gazaway was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Amelia Lamb Gazaway in January, 2000. Mr. Gazaway, a native of Atlanta, worked for his father, John Henry Gazaway, at Gazaway & Sons Electrical Contractors in College Park until taking over the business, after his father's retirement. The Gazaway houses were always magnets for their neighborhoods. Everyone loved to eat Amelia's food and watch Ralph work..making grandfather clocks, dollhouses and various other works in wood. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, a Mason, a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His passion was people and making them happy. He is survived by four children and spouses, Barbara G. Ramsay, Ralph Lamar Gazaway, Jr., Janice G. Cook, Stephen Paul Gazaway, Ernest Ramsay, and Janet H. Gazaway; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth R Poland, Lydia Katherine R. Brewer, Laura C. Barton, Ashley G. Connor, Nathan Lamar Gazaway, Jonathan Paul Gazaway, Daniel Patrick Gazaway and Neil Poland, Lyons Brewer, Todd Barton and Richard Connor; six great-grandchildren, A. Amelia Poland, Nicholas Paul Poland, Andrew Ernest Poland, Margaret Amelia Connor, William Morrison Barton and Ramsay Lyons Brewer. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 404-292-1551.  Family and friends are encouraged to choose their own memorials.
