Ray Jackson

Mr. Ray Jackson of Clarkston died Saturday, January 7, 2006. He was born in Wayne County, TN on January 22, 1923 and graduated from Lawrence County High School. Mr. Jackson was a B-24 bombardier during World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He attended Martin College in Pulaski, TN, graduated from Peabody College in Nashville, TN and received advanced degrees from Indiana University. Mr. Jackson was a teacher and principal in DeKalb County for 26 years, serving as principal at Clarkston High School from 1959 to 1978. Following his retirement he was elected to the DeKalb County School Board, serving as chairman from 1981 to 1982. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Roberta Jackson; daughters, Charlotte Jackson of Big Canoe, Lynn Simpson of Tucker; sons, James Jackson of Dunkirk, MD, Joe David Jackson of Lilburn; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Clarkston United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert White and Rev. Larry Amos officiating. Mr. Jackson will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at A. S.
