Mr. Ray Nelson Jarvis, 89, of Tucker, GA died Sunday, May 9, 2010. He was born August 16, 1920 in Mars Hill, NC to Obadiah and Althea Ray Jarvis. He attended Mars Hill Junior College and graduated from North Carolina State, where he did his post graduate studies. Mr. Jarvis was a veteran of WWII during the European Theater, serving in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sgt. Engineer in the 1375th Engineering P. D. Co. He was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church since 1972 and loved his Sunday School Class "Christian Forum". He retired from Gold Kist in Atlanta as Assistant Director of Nutrition in Feed Manufacturing. Mr. Jarvis was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Owen Jarvis of Mars Hill, NC. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha Pauline (Polly) Huff Jarvis; daughters, Margaret Tilson and husband Tom of Asheville, NC, Martha Price of Atlanta, GA, Mary Elizabeth Jarvis of Tucker, GA; son, Ray N. Jarvis, Jr. and wife Jill of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Bill Tilson, Jeff Tilson, Karen Tilson, Jennifer Frame, Mark Jarvis, Scott Jarvis; great grandchildren, Paul Tilson, Leah Tilson, Hannah Tilson, Jared Tilson, Asher Frame; and brother, Dr. Luther Jarvis and wife Mary of Gastonia, NC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 11th at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Randy Webb officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, May 12th at 2:00 P.M. at Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Mars Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Jarvis's memory to Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 LaVista Rd., Decatur, GA 30033 or DeKalb Community Service Center, 2660 Osborne Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
