Raymond L. Roper

Raymond L. Roper age 91 of Decatur, passed away November 7, 2018. Mr. Roper was retired from General Motors after many years of service. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving our country in World War II. He was a Past Master from Master’s Lodge #295 F&AM and an active Shriner. He drove the Shriner’s bus, transporting children to the Shriner’s hospital in Cincinnati and back to Atlanta many times. Ray also volunteered at Fernbank and tended the Rose Gardens, as well as volunteering at Dekalb Medical Center and enjoyed driving the Courtesy Cart. Mr. Roper was a long time member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marianne Roper. He is survived by his children, Linda and Gene Odom, Susan Roper, Jane and Steve Priest, Dennis and Vanessa and Richard and Bonnie Roper; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mr. Roper will be held Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Bob Bowland and Rev. Louis Miller officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 2-4 PM at the funeral home.
