Rea L Queen

February 6, 1945 — May 30, 2014

Rea Lynch Queen, surrounded by family, died peacefully on May 30. She had courageously battled both lymphoma and lung cancer maintaining the toughness and humor she was known for. She was 69. Rea is survived by Larry Queen, her adoring husband of 50 years, and her children Vickie Queen, Julie Ross and Eric Queen, as well as her beloved grandchildren Max Holland, Claire Holland, Caroline Ross and Colin Ross. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers John Lynch, Charles Lynch and Patrick Lynch, sisters-in-law Betty Anne Lynch, Susan Lynch, and Mary Beth Lynch, as well as nephews and nieces Mac Lynch (wife Wendy and children Anne Marie and Kiley), Steven Lynch (wife Lisa and children Lorelei and Griffin), Emily Handelman (husband Brett), Ryan Lynch, Annie Gilbert (husband Andrew) and Katie Lynch. Rea was preceded in death by her father, Jack Lynch, her mother, Julia Lynch, and her brother Michael Lynch. Rea was a voracious reader and was known for her easy laugh and razor-sharp wit. She worked for 40 years at Baumgarten's, a family business in which she played a vital role. They celebrated her contributions with a banquet in her honor when she retired just a year and a half ago. Rea believed strongly in family, and it was important to her to continue long-standing traditions established by her beloved mother, known to all as Mamaw. These traditions include family dishes - particularly her potato salad, of which there is none finer. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons. 2773 N. Decatur Road.
