Reuben Hearn Godfrey died peacefully on January 14, surrounded by his children. Born on October 3, 1921, in Society Hill, Alabama to Annie Mae Hearn and Reuben R. Godfrey, Reuben joined the U. S. Army and served from September 18, 1940 to December 24, 1945. After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Auburn University. Shortly after graduating, he began his career as an auditor and manager at American Mutual Liability Insurance Company.
At American Mutual, Reuben met Margaret Ingram, and they married in 1951. He and Margaret joined North Decatur Presbyterian Church in 1962, where he served as an elder for multiple terms and helped manage church finances for many years.
After retiring, Reuben spent many happy and fulfilling hours helping to raise his grandchildren. While his family was always the center of his life, he also loved traveling, gardening, riding his bike, and reading.
