Rev. George R. Holden, Sr.

Rev. George R. Holden, Sr., 90, of Atlanta died Monday February 28, 2011. A native of Clarkesburg, West Virginia, Rev. Holden received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hampden-Sydney College and his Batchelor's of Divinity from Emory University. Rev. Holden was a member of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and had served at several church's including North Decatur Rd. UMC, Lawrenceville UMC, Ben Hill Methodist and Atlanta First UMC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rubye Riggle Holden, and is survived by his son, Russell Holden and his wife, Charlotte; daughters, Rosemary Brittain and her husband, Jim; Beth Bourquin and her husband, Charlie. Also surviving are his grandchildren Suzanne White, Allison Simmons, Natalie Brittain, Sarah Podbielski, Phillip Bourquin, Randall Bourquin, Nick Bourquin and Michelle Bourquin; great-grandchildren, Ebbie Simmons, Ella Simmons and Hannah White. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 3, 2011 at the Atlanta First United Methodist Church. He will lie in state at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Atlanta First United Methodist Church, 360 Peachtree St., Atlanta. GA 30308.
