Rev. Thomas A. Mills, "Tommy", age 97 of Atlanta passed away on Saturday November 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sue and George Mills, Step-father, C. D. Anderson, his brother, Jimmy and his great granddaughter, Madelyn Moore.
Tommy was born on May 9, 1921 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a training pilot for the Army Air Force during WWII. He went on to attend Emory Dental School and owned his own dental lab for five years. He went to work for the Audichron Company as a purchasing agent and retired in 1986.
Tommy had a love for music beginning at an early age and went on to play several instruments. His favorite was the vibraharp, which he played at numerous assisted living and nursing homes, as well as churches. His love of God and music brought him the opportunity to serve as Minister of Music in several Atlanta area churches. He wrote, "Vignettes on Life as Lived" and in 2010 wrote and published "The Worm and the Apple". Tommy's greatest joy was being "Pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Marilyn H. Mills; daughters, Cheryl Wilson (Tommy) and Vicki Timmerman (Ken); grandchildren, Michael Todd Wilson (Tanya), Kendra Moore (Chad), and Brittany Barrington (John); great-grandchildren, Micah and Hannah Wilson, Liam and Brayden Moore, and Leo Barrington. He will be forever remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family will miss him greatly but take comfort in knowing that while he is absent from this body, he is present with the Lord.
The family would like to thank Tommy's wonderful caregivers, Hycene, Winston, and Alecia for all of their unconditional love, their compassion, patience, and their deep commitment to his care. Thank you for walking every step of this journey with us. We are forever grateful.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 10:00 am-11:00 am, followed by a celebration of Tommy's life at 11:00 am.. There will be a private burial.
