Rhumelle Bondurant “Shirley” Moore left us peacefully on Saturday July 14th, 2018 after a much-fulfilled life at the age of 92. Shirley was born on Ground Hogs day in 1926 in Spray, North Carolina. Shirley was the daughter of Ethel Burchell Bondurant and James Stafford Bondurant. She was married to Calvin Shelton Moore. She moved across the Southeast with Cal from Athens, GA; to Decatur, GA; to Cleveland, TN; and Destin, FL. She finally settled into the retail business as an owner in North Carolina, first in Durham then eventually called home to Kure Beach. She may have been the longest working saleswoman in Wilmington. She loved her business and finally retired at 80.
Shirley lived many years of her life on the beach. She was an avid beach walker, shell collector, flower arranger, cook and cocktail party host. She was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan and was notorious for accidentally spilling a drink on the WSB Camera crew reporting live from the 1980 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans
She will be remembered for her zeal for life and her desire for all around her to be happy and well entertained.
She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Moore; her sister Lois Bondurant Proffit; her brother James Ellery Bondurant; her brother Walter Ronald Bondurant; and her son Alan Moore and her daughter in-law Elizabeth Petway Moore. She is survived by her grandson Ben Moore; grandson Bo Moore and wife Leah Moore; and her great grandchildren Lillie and Tripp Moore.
