Richard H. Wood

Richard Hudspeth Wood, 97, of Ft. Gaines, GA passed away March 1, 2012 in Abbeyville, AL. Born and reared in Abbeyville, AL he was a long time resident of Avondale Estates and graduate of Auburn University College of Engineering. Having served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II he was a retired Electrical Engineer with Georgia Power Company and was active in the Ambassadors, a Georgia Power Company retirement group. He was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas Crawford Wood and Besse Hudspeth Wood. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Robinson Wood of Ft. Gaines, GA; sister, Mishie Wood Killebrew of Ft. Gaines, GA; nieces, Besse Killebrew Mills and husband Bill and Amy Robinson Brown and husband Terry; nephew, Jimmy Robinson and wife Marsha. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Westview Cemetery with Pastor Martin Loyley officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Auburn University College of Engineering, Suite 1320, Shelby Center, Auburn University, AL 36849 or the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030. The family will receive friends Monday 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
