Richard J. Guilmartin of Stone Mountain died Wednesday, July 6, at Piedmont Hospital following a short illness. He was 82 years of age. He was born in North Quincy, Massachusetts on August 15, 1928 to Agatha and James Guilmartin and moved to Stone Mountain in 1988. Before his retirement Richard had his own smoking cessation program and was very successful in helping people stop smoking both in Atlanta and New England. Richard was full of life and thought everyone was his friend. He was the door greeter at his church, Central Congregational UCC Church of Atlanta, for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Enid Guilmartin, his son, Christopher Guilmartin of Medway, Massachusetts and his daughter Diana Abati-George of Boston, MA. He is also survived by his step-sons Chad Brown (wife Allison) of Dallas Texas, Daryn Brown (wife Beth) of Carver, Massachusetts and grandchildren Elizabeth Abati George, Katie and Reilly Guilmartin, Forrest, Peyton, Carson Zachary and Travis Brown. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 3 p.m. at Central Congregational United Church of Christ located at 2676 Clairmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the church's senior ministry, Plymouth Harbor, in care of Central Congregational Church noting "Plymouth Harbor-Richard" in the memo line.
