Robert Brooks Griggs died Thursday, August 27th, 2015 at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta from an infection that occurred after hip surgery. He was 84 years young and lived in Dunwoody, GA. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at A.S. Turner and Sons located on 2273 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033, Phone 404-292-1551. Brooks as he was called by friends and family was born on April 26th, 1931 in LaGrange, GA to James and Evelyn Griggs. He grew up spending most of his time with the Boy Scouts, church activities and later the Key Club. After high school; he attended Georgia Tech for a year, enlisted in the US Naval Reserve and completed his boot training. He attended API where he received a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management. He proudly served in the Navy for 5 years and then moved out West to work. Brooks eventually returned to the south where he followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a stockbroker. He soon married Nina Mae Hester, sorority sister to his own sister Connie and the couple started a family. They had three children, Lane, Keith and Gloria. The couple lived in Columbus, GA .
Brooks and Nina were together for 32 years but grew apart and finally divorced. Brooks reunited with his high school girl, Mary Anne, they married and moved out West to Seattle, WA. They spent many happy years together until Mary Anne's passing and he moved back to Georgia. He and Nina began to write every day via email. After more than 15 years apart, the flame hadn't died out and were remarried in December of 2007. They had an active social life with family and friends until Nina passed away in December of 2011.
Brooks moved to Dunwoody Pines in August of 2012. He was an avid Bingo and Poker Player and even took Tai Chi classes. But the highlight of his life was found in a very special lady, Carol Jaeger. They had a whirlwind romance and were even moving in together prior to his fall. He is survived by his daughter Gloria Griggs, his sisters, Mary Golsan , Margie Roberts and Connie Sprunk, a granddaughter, Ridley Griggs and her mother, Jenny, another granddaughter, Kayla Griggs; a grandson Tyler Griggs, and their mother, Dana. Brooks was preceded in death by his two sons, Keith Hester Griggs and Lane Brooks Griggs, MD.
