Robert Edward Mozley

Robert Edward (“Bob”) Mozley was born in Marietta on January 5, 1925. He was the son of Hiram Elbert Mozley and Ethel Hudson Mozley and was the youngest of three brothers. The family lived on Church Street not far from the Marietta Square.

Bob served in the Army Air Forces during World War II and was trained as a gunner on the B-24 and later as a radar operator on the B-29.

After the war, Bob enrolled in the University of Georgia and studied law. He was a member of Chi Phi fraternity and served as chapter president. While at UGA, Bob met a cute Kappa Alpha Theta named Kathryn “Kitty” Riley. They were married in December 1950 at the Decatur First Methodist Church and were married over 66 years until Kitty’s passing in March 2017.

Bob and Kitty lived in Decatur, Tampa, and Miami, and in 1958 they moved back to Decatur, where Bob opened a law office. He was a member of the Georgia Bar Association and served as Assistant County Attorney for DeKalb County from 1961-1970.

Bob was a lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, an avid reader of history, biography, or a good whodunnit, and a lover of classical music. He was a Christian gentleman, a loyal friend, and a mentor to many.

He passed away peacefully on September 28th, almost 97 years old, yet still possessing a sharp mind and a dry wit.

Bob was predeceased by his older brothers, John Hudson Mozley and Hiram Elbert Mozley, Jr., and his wife Kitty. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karyn and Jerry Whigham; nieces and nephews, Georgia Royal, John Mozley, Dr. Mark Hastings, and Jill Thompson; and great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 6th, from 5-7 PM at A.S.Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday at Decatur City Cemetery.
