Robert Edwin Matheson

Robert E. Matheson, Jr., beloved husband, cherished father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend passed away on May 16th, 2017, in Brunswick, Georgia at the age of 67. Bob was the son of the late Lois Matheson Kellogg and Robert E. Matheson, Sr. Bob was born in and lived most of his life in Atlanta. He graduated from Towers High School in 1967 and from Georgia Tech in 1971. He was always a devoted and sometimes crazy Rambling Wreck. He also received his Masters Degree in Finance from Georgia State University.

Bob was a man of great compassion, always generous with his time and his talents. He loved nothing more than to be on the water at the helm of his boat and instilled that passion in his family. He will be loved forever and profoundly missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jennifer Lee Matheson and his 2 sons and their wives Hunter & Jennifer Matheson and Cary & Dana Matheson. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Hailey, Alexander, Charlotte, Ryan and Jane. Other survivors include his sister and brother-in-law Debra and Arm Hedgecock, his first wife, Pam Matheson, his wife’s father and mother Al Lee & Tommie Jean Shultz, her grandmother Mimi Lee, Ray and Carol Mitchell, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and last but not least, his beloved dog Liberty.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, May 20th, 2017, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia. The family will receive friends for a visitation at noon followed by a 1:00pm memorial service. The burial will follow at 5:00pm in the Matheson section of the Hayesville First United Methodist cemetery in Hayesville, North Carolina.

He’s somewhere on the ocean now. The place he ought to be; with one hand on the starboard rail, he’s waving back at me.
