Mr. Robert Heim Ellwood, 88 of Atlanta died September 11, 2011. He was born in Alta Vista, Virginia to Leo Bunker Ellwood and Vera Salle in1923. After serving his country in the Army during World War II in Alaska, China, India and Burma, he worked for the Dept. of Defense in Missile Calibrations at Fort Gillem until his retirement. Survivors include his wife of 64 years Virginia Ellwood, Atlanta: daughter Linda Champion and her husband Dale of Marietta, son Charles Ellwood of Marietta, daughter Karen Nichols and her husband Chuck of Decatur, daughter Julie Barnhart of Dahlonega: two grandchildren Tyler Smith of Decatur and Logan D'Eramo and her husband Adam of East Atlanta and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons. Rev. Greg Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the rendering of military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A.S. Turner and Sons, Decatur is in charge of the arrangements.
