Our Father God called to Heaven Robert Hugh Cowan, age 94, of Decatur, after a brief illness, Sunday, April 28, 2013. Known to his contemporaries as Hugh or R.H., he was born in Acworth, Georgia on September 30, 1918, the son of the late Clyde Stephen Cowan and Georgia Bell (Chastain) Cowan. Hugh retired, after 40 years, from the Ford Motor Company. He had an engineering mind, holding a record at Ford for the most lifetime suggestion awards, including three major awards. He was an avid gardener, horticulturist and architect who could grow, design and build anything. Hugh served our country as a United States Marine in WWII and the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions aboard the USS Montpelier in January 1943. He will be buried at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Hugh is survived by his wife of 58 years, Agnes (McCurry) Cowan and three children and grandchildren, daughter, Joy Hawkins (Amelia and Garrett); sons, Stanford Cowan and Steve Cowan (Triny Marie and all of Steve's other kids). A memorial service in celebration of Hugh's life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, 2:00p.m., at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 711 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30030, Reverend Tom Hagood, presiding.
