Robert Irving Beavers, Sr.

June 24, 1929 — January 11, 2022

Robert Irving Beavers, Sr. (Bob) passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 92. He was born on June 24, 1929 in Grafton, West Virginia to parents William Adam Beavers, Jr. and Dorothy Rowland Beavers.


At the age of 17, he felt the call of duty during World War II. His young age required that he receive parental permission to enlist. Permission granted, Mr. Beavers joined the Air Force and was assigned to the Berlin Air Lift.


After returning home from the service, he enrolled in West Virginia University in Morgantown, where he received a degree in agriculture. He married Marie Rose Lazar with whom he soon relocated to Atlanta, Georgia.


His love for the game of golf shaped Mr. Beavers’ career. He was a member of the Professional Golfers Association, playing in PGA tournaments as a young man and becoming the golf pro at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Georgia. Mr. Beavers concluded his career as the Vice President of Sales for Dunlop Tire and Rubber Company’s Sporting Goods Division.


His parents, his second wife, Martha Crowshaw Beavers, his first wife, Marie Beavers, and his brother, William Adam Beavers, III preceded him in death. He is survived by his and Marie’s children, Colleen Smith and Robert Beavers, Jr., his grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


A graveside service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mt. Carmel Church Lane, Canton, Georgia on February 4th at 12:30 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Heart Association in Mr. Beavers’ honor.
