Robert Joseph Brennan

October 7, 1919 — July 12, 2012

Robert J. "Bob" Brennan, 92, died peacefully at home in Sandy Springs on July 11, 2012 with Florence, his wife of 63 years, at his side. He is also survived by his daughter Virginia Sheen and her husband Jim of Sandy Springs; Edward Brennan of Somerville NJ; Robert Brennan and his wife Virginia Rankin Brennan of Decatur GA; Mary Brennan and her husband Joe Manhart of Hillsborough NJ , Patricia Blaettler and her husband Joe of Mendham NJ; Michael Brennan of Toms River NJ; Alice Brennan of Westerly RI; Martin Brennan and his wife Toni Cook of Decatur GA; and John Brennan and his wife Karoline Rumps Brennan of Tucker GA. Mr. Brennan leaves twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved and was extremely proud. He also leaves his beloved canine companion "Joe the
Dog." Bob was born on October 7, 1919 in Jersey City, NJ and was raised with his brother Edward T. Brennan, Jr.,(who was killed in WW II) in Great Kills, Staten Island, NY. He was an athlete who lettered in football, baseball and basketball at Tottenville H.S. on Staten Island. Mr. Brennan served in WW II with the Army 111th Infantry in Pulo Ana and Pelielu, Palau as a Mine Demolitions Engineer. This service to his country came second only to his family on his list of life's most important things. Robert married Florence Ann O'Keeffe in 1949 in New Dorp, Staten Island. They had and raised their children in Colonia, NJ, Roselle, NJ, and Preston Park, PA. During most of those years, Bob coached his kids and everyone else's in little league baseball. Mr. Brennan retired after 30+ years from Western Electric in NJ. After his retirement with Florence to Preston Park, PA, he remained an avid golfer, and played into his late eighties. Bob Brennan was, first and foremost, a family man. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enormous pride in family, and an impeccable work ethic, all of which are his legacy to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
