Robert J Wilson aka Bobby Joe Wilson passed away October 9, 2017. Born in Decatur, GA, September 28, 1931, he was the son of the late Lonnie Bond Wilson and Sarah LaUna Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bettie Merritt Wilson; daughter, Deborah Wilson Sharian; son, R. Keith Wilson; granddaughters, Sarah "Sunshine" Hampton, Emily Joy Parrish, and Lisa Nicole Wilson; great grandchildren, Aiden Stephen Hampton, MacKenzie Reagan Hampton, Parker Wilson Hampton, Allie Joy Parrish, Noah Parrish, and Sebastian Henao; and brother, Paul Wilson.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by seven brothers, Murphy Wilson, James Wilson, Ralph Wilson, JW (Jake) Wilson, LB Wilson Jr, Elmer (Red) Wilson, Russel Wilson; and two sisters, Lucille James, Louise Wiggins.
Bob was a hard working man.
He worked at Art Wilson Motors and Studebaker in Decatur.
Then off to the Army where again he worked on cars and other vehicles.
When he returned he worked for his brother, Jake Wilson at the Pure Oil Station.
Later he worked at Southern Chevrolet in Decatur, where I would take his supper to him in the evenings. While he ate, his daughter would play in the oil pits under the cars and run up and down concrete steps. Then back to work, he would go.
The day came when he decided he to put all that hard work into a business of his own.
Wilson's Garage began in 1965 and the business exists to this day. 52 years later.
His son, Keith, continues with the business.
Bob's brother, Paul, wondered if you lined up every car that he worked on in his life how far would it go? I imagine quite a long way.....
Bob is a great example of success through hard work and determination.
