Robert Langley Blanz

Robert Langley Blanz "Lang", 85, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 19, 1931, the son of Robert T. "Bob" and Louise Haynes Blanz. He spent his young years in Hickory, N.C. before moving to Decatur, where he graduated from Decatur Boy's High School. He then attended Presbyterian College, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War.

After his service, he began his career in church and school furniture sales, partnering with his father, and later, his son. Lang took pride in his business and even more pride in his church. He was a life-long member of Decatur First United Methodist and was a member of the Knox Peabody Sunday School class. When Lang was not working or at church, he loved to spend time with his family and friends at the lake and the beach.

Lang is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gwen Foster Blanz; his daughter, Robin Blanz Mitchell and her husband, John Green Mitchell Jr.; his son, Robert Langley Blanz Jr. and his wife, Kim Thomason Blanz; and his four grandchildren, John Green Mitchell III (Trey), Brittany Raven Blanz, Robert Langley Blanz III (Buck), and Hayden Foster Blanz; sister and brother- in- law, Joan and Neal Pope, nephews Dick and Jim Pope, and their families.

A memorial service will be held at Decatur First United Methodist Church on February 8th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Decatur First Methodist Church, Stillwell Maintenance Fund or the Presbyterian College Annual Fund in memory of Langley Blanz. Addresses below:
