Robert Leroy Pound

February 7, 1920 — March 6, 2009

Robert Leroy Pound, son of Lee Roy and Marie Plunkett Pound, was born on February 7, 1920 in Forsyth, GA.  He and his late sister, Frances Pound Fletcher, were reared in Orlando, Fla. and Columbus, GA. He was actively involved in DeMolay and Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.  At age 17, he met the love of his life, Frances Thompson, at Rose Hill Methodist Church.  After dating 5 years, Bob and Frances married on May 31, 1942.  Bob worked at Bibb Manufacturing Co. in Columbus and Porterdale, GA before becoming the director of GA camps for the Boy Scouts of America. In 1952, Bob joined Bostitch Stapling Co., later a division of Textron, Inc.  He served Bostitch in sales, sales management, and management training until his retirement in 1985.  In retirement Bob used his skills and talents in a variety of leadership positions with several organizations including AARP, and the Atlanta Men’s Garden Club. Bob continued his lifelong active Methodist church involvement at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where he had been a member since 1966, serving as chair of the Administrative Board and teaching the Fellowship Sunday School class for many years.  Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Frances Thompson Pound, and 3 daughters Bonnie Pound Vigil and son-in-law Allan, Becky Pound Bocian and son-in-law Jim, and Barbara Pound.  Also surviving are his much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dawn Vigil, Michael and Kristy Vigil and their girls, Natalie and Molly Vigil, Ashley and Whit Martin, and Katie and Adam Atcheson.  Bob also leaves behind many loving and caring friends.  Family and friends are invited to visit with the Pound family in the Parlor at Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 2:00. A memorial service will follow, in the Sanctuary at 3:00 with Rev. Jim Bocian, Dr. Glenn Etheridge, and Rev. Greg Smith officiating.  The family would like to express our appreciation to the wonderful doctors and care givers who assisted Bob in his sunset days.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA 30033 or KingsBridge, 3055 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA 30329.
