Robert L. Harris, Jr. passed away on February 9, 2017, at the age of 91. He was born in Fort Valley, GA on May 30, 1925. He fought on the front lines in the European Theater during WWII, serving as a Sergeant in Company B with the 310th Infantry, 78th Division. He was among the first Americans to cross the Rhine River at the Remagen Bridge. He was self-employed as a CPA in the Atlanta area in a career spanning more than 60 years. He was married to Lavonia Whigham of Cairo, GA for 55 years until her death in 2009. He lived his remaining years happily at Kings Bridge Retirement Home in Decatur. His friends and family loved him for his generosity, kindness, wry sense of humor, and gentle spirit. He is survived by his children, Bess Boeri, Walter (Jenifer) Harris, Julie (Mark) Najjar, three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Sunday, February 12, at 2PM. Viewing begins at noon.
