It is with great sadness that the family of Robert O. Keegan Sr., 84 of Cornelia GA, announces his unexpected passing on Monday, March 30, 2009, following a brief bout with pneumonia. Bob was a Loving, dedicated, and resourceful father and grandfather. He was born in Atlanta on April 21, 1924 and later graduated with honors from Marist High school in June of 1943. He entered the Army Air Corp in the same year as a flying cadet graduating with top honors as a photo reconnaissance pilot. By 1945 he was flying combat missions from the Philippine Islands. Mr. Keegan was awarded the air medal, the distinguished unit badge, and the Asiatic pacific campaign medal with four bronze service stars among others. After serving with occupation forces in Japan he returned to Georgia in 1947 where he joined the GA National guard. In 1950, while commanding an Air base in Hokkaido, Japan during the Korean war he met his future wife, Grace Vivian Jones. Marrying in 1958, the couple moved to California where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp, at the skunk works advanced R&D division. He returned to Georgia in 1980. He is survived by his two sons, Dan of Cornelia, GA, and Robert Jr. of Boise, ID and their wives Monty and Denise respectively; grandsons, Sean and Kelly Keegan of Cornelia; and granddaughter, Kara Keegan of Boise; as well as sisters, Patsy Miller of Moultrie, Dorothy (Dot) Keegan of Thomasville, and Ellen Casey of Montgomery AL. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday the 4th of April at A.S. Turner & Sons at 2773 North Decatur Road in Decatur, GA 30033. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the U.S.O.
