Robert Owen "Bobby" Shephard, Jr., 70, passed away on September 13, 2013 from a 20 year battle with a brain tumor. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Connie Shephard; her two children, Jennifer Goss (Greg) of Sharpsburg, GA and Kristin Daehler (Derrick) of Newnan, GA; 7 grandchildren; his sister, Camille Yahm (Stuart) of Carrollton, GA; nieces, Christel Funk of Navarre, FL, Lisa Nied (Larry) of Doraville, GA, Melanie Funk of Decatur, GA and Wendi Funk of Athens, GA; 5 grand nieces and 1 grand nephew and his delightful companion Daisy, a miniature dachshund. He was predeceased by his parents, Onita Aldridge and Robert Owen Shephard of Atlanta, GA. Born in Meridian, MS, Bobby attended MS schools in Meridian, New Albany, Greenwood, Grenada and graduated Druid Hills High School in Atlanta in 1962. In 1966 he received his BA degree in Sociology from the University of Mississippi. He received his Teaching Certificate from GA State University in Atlanta and earned a MEd degree in Guidance and Counseling in addition to an EdS in Administration and Supervision from the University of West Georgia. He began his distinguished career in education in Clayton County, beginning as a Jr. High teacher, Sr. High Vocational Coordinator, Jr. High Counselor, Elementary Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, Middle School Principal and College Level Distance Learning Facilitator. As a professional educator, Bobby was an active member of Phi Delta Theta, a national educational fraternity and PAGE (Professional Association of GA Educators). He will be remembered for his strong belief that all children deserve a solid education that would ensure them a prosperous future. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 15, 2013 from the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons with Rev. Richard Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Bobby's family is grateful for the overwhelming expressions of support and concern during his final illness. In lieu of flowers, they request bequests in his name to be given to a charity of one's choice or to the Robert O. Shephard Levee Research Fund, a project established by Bobby and Camille to memorialize their father. Donations may be sent to: The University of Mississippi Foundation P.O.
