Robert “Robby” Campbell Lawrence III, age 68, of Decatur, GA passed away May 4, 2021. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 4:00 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, 30033. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation at the funeral home from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Robby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Campbell Lawrence Jr and Marie Cote Lawrence, and brother-in-law Richard Born. He is survived by sisters Jeannine Lawrence, Sheryl Born, and Mischell Keller, brother Kurt Lawrence (Laurie), nieces and nephews Stacey Rhodes (Shane), Evan Born, Kimberly Barnes (Andrew), Sara Lawrence, Mathew Keller, and Casey Lawrence; and great-niece Sage Rhodes, and great nephew Tate Barnes.
Robby was a certified auto and marine mechanic for many years and excelled at diagnosing unusual mechanical problems. He could fix anything and taught many in his trade (and family members) to do the same. He was a long-time member of Cherokee Gun Club in Gainesville, GA. He loved all aspects of the sport and took great pride in teaching others gun safety and the intricacies of precision shooting, especially his nephews and nieces. He was also known far and wide for his love of fireworks and would make sure all his “junior pyromaniacs” were properly equipped for New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July, even if it took a four-hour roundtrip drive to stockpile. Another passion of Robby’s was motorcycle riding. He spent many years racing his vintage bikes (mainly Ducatis) and was rather proud of beating more powerful bikes in the turns, and even taking home a few trophies. Later in life, his motorcycle rides into the mountains were a great pleasure to him. He was an avid reader, historian, and knowledgeable of just about everything. Of course, anyone who knew Robby, knew he loved to talk and could tell story after story. He was extremely proud of all the nieces and nephews and loved talking with all his cousins to keep everyone updated on the family goings-on. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leukemia & Lymphocytic Society (www.lls.org).
