Robert "Robin" Gregory Vaughan

June 23, 1960 — September 9, 2017

On Friday, September 8th, 2017, Robert Gregory Vaughan, known as Robin, spent a fine day at home with his son Spencer and later talked with some family and friends on the phone. Afterward he made his ritual of reading before bed; he took off his reading glasses, put his book on the nightstand, and closed his eyes. That night, he gently slipped into his final rest.

While the exact cause of his death isn't known, he had been to Piedmont hospital earlier in the week because of a recent heart attack.

Robin had an innate connection to the music of the human condition. That music was felt in the songs that were always close to his lips. He sung them with gusto.

It was felt in the way he universally welcomed and looked after others. It was felt in his special relationship with his family. It was felt in how he made friends and strangers feel like they were his family. It was felt in the correspondence, short stories, and poetry he wrote in his quieter hours. It was felt in his sense of humor, which stretched from sharp and self deprecating to slapstick and silly. It's felt now echoing in the hearts and minds of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his two sons, Jud and Spencer, his brother Scott, his sisters Carie and Christie, his father Harley, and his mother Diane. He is also survived by a limitless collection of extended family, both blood related and friends from the Atlanta service industry community.

A gathering will be held to celebrate Robin's incredible life this Saturday Sept 16, 1pm in the restaurant he managed: Big Tex in Decatur. Bring tears, stories, laughter, songs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Giving Kitchen, a local nonprofit which helps Atlanta restaurant workers in times of unanticipated crisis.
