Robert "Bob" Willis Waters, 75, of Atlanta, GA, went home to his Lord on June 4, 2015 after a noble and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on July 2, 1939, in Daisy, GA, to his late parents Robert "Buddy" Willis Waters and Frances Durrence Waters. Bob graduated from Ludowici High School in 1957 and from Valdosta State College in 1961. After serving in the navy from 1961 to 1963, he lived in Savannah, Athens, St. Simons Island, and Atlanta. Most of his working years were spent with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia.
Bob's giant contagious smile, warm heart, sense of humor, and simple joy will be deeply missed. Even those who spent just a few minutes with him walked away considering him a friend. His favorite things included his family, his beloved dog Henry, taking walks and hikes, collecting rocks from around the world, visiting with folks, loving and serving his church family, studying the Bible, reading, travel adventures, laughing, and working in his yard. As his homecoming with Jesus drew near, faith, peace, and joy radiated from him all the more.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfathers Talmadge Hughes, Sr. and Joseph Marcus Smith, his son Robert "Rob" Willis Waters III, and his sister Miranda Waters Connor. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Waters Lange of Savannah, GA, her husband Stephen, and their children Emerson, Harrison, Isabelle, Stephen, and Scarlett; daughter Miranda Waters Byers of Durham, England, her husband Andy and their children Brynn, Hayden, Cavan, and Adalyn; the mother of his children, Linda Hickman Waters; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Bob's funeral will be held on Saturday, June 13, at First Baptist Church Decatur, GA, with a service at 11:00 and a luncheon for everyone afterward. His burial and graveside service will take place at 11:00 on Monday, June 15, at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island, GA, followed by a luncheon for everyone. In lieu of flowers, Bob requested donations to First Baptist Church Decatur, GA or CaringBridge website.
