Roberta Kilpatrick Stubblebine

Roberta Kilpatrick Stubblebine passed away on Friday, July 29.  Roberta was born on October 30, 1911, of parents, Walter Stanford Kilpatrick and Elizabeth Blanton Kilpatrick of Atlanta. Roberta was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles Albert Stubblebine; sisters, Eloise Kilpatrick Printup and Elizabeth Kilpatrick Scarbrough. Roberta was survived by son, Charles Albert Stubblebine, Jr. of Decatur, GA; and daughter Suzanne Stubblebine Thomas of Ocala, Florida; grandsons Alexander Turner Thomas, IV, Robert Charles Thomas, and William Carl Pitts, III; granddaughter, Ami Pitts Stephens; and three great grandchildren.  Roberta graduated from Atlanta Girls High School, Agnes Scott College, where she initiated in the Phi Beta Kappa scholastic fraternity. She earned her Masters Degree in Science from Emory University. Following Emory, she worked with a local Atlanta Medical Doctor, did research for Coca-Cola, and taught at Agnes Scott.  When her children were born, Roberta became a "stay at home" Mom; however, she was very much involved with family, church, and civic and social activities, as a Cub Scout den mother, a Sunday School teacher, garden club president, bridge clubs, active member of the Decatur Service League, now the Junior League of DeKalb County. She was a long time member of the Paty Class at the Decatur First United Methodist Church, where she served her church in many capacities. When her children entered high school, Roberta began teaching in the DeKalb County School System. She received the "Teacher of the Year" award in DeKalb County, and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority before retiring from the DeKalb School System in 1976. The visitation is scheduled for Sunday evening, July 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. The funeral service will be held at the Decatur First United Methodist Church on Monday morning, August 1, at 11:00 a.m., Dr. David Naglee officiating, followed by interment at the Decatur Cemetery.
