Ronald C. Gummel of Fayettville, Georgia passed away October 17, 2009. He was born on March 13, 1938 in Baltimore MD to the late Charles and Thelma Gummel. Ron enjoyed collecting and renovating antique cars, Nascar racing, playing poker, discussing politics, his dogs Chevy and Walker and especially visiting Haines, Alaska. Foremost, he was committed to his family and took great pride in his relationships with all of them. After graduating from Parkville High School in Baltimore, Maryland, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. He then married, raised two children and started his own business in Plantation, Florida before relocating to Fayette County. He fought a long and dedicated battle against heart disease with the help of his doctors at Emory University for the last 16 years with exceptional success. He is survived by his daughter, Kris Howard and her husband Eddye of Sarasota, Florida; son, R. Todd Gummel and his wife Samara of Waxhaw, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ty, Kyle and Ryan Howard, Harrison, Peyton and Cora Gummel; sister, Shirley Parr of Parkville, Maryland; sister, Carole Council of Mt. Morris, Illinois; sister, Janis McGuire of Fallston, Maryland; and brother, Gary Gummel of Melbourne, Florida. A Memorial Celebration will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 24th at 1:00 pm for friends and relatives. Please contact the family locally for details.
