Mrs. Rosa Marie Sobieski, wife of Thaddeus R. Sobieski, born October 12, 1921 in Bainbridge, GA, died at 12:40 P.M. on June 19, 2011 at Vista Care Hospice at Emory. She was the daughter of Charles Lee and Rosa Marie Ward, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Columbus High School in 1939. Mrs. Sobieski was an inspiring artist and was a member of the Atlanta Artists Club. She studied at the High Museum of Art, and privately with Joseph Perrin, who was Chairman of the Arts Department at Georgia State University. Mrs. Sobieski was skilled in watercolor, oil, acrylic painting, pen and pencil drawing and collage making. Her many awards included the Best of Painting at the Atlanta Artist Club. The Painting Award was purchased by the LaGrange National Museum located in LaGrange, GA, Hunter Gallery in Chattanooga, TN, Arlen Corporation in New York, McCaffrey Corporation, Dublin Ireland, many art collectors and individuals. Her paintings were exhibited at the High Museum Art Shop, Columbus Georgia Museum of Art, Bessie Tift College, Atlanta Arts Festival, Dalton, Georgia Annual Fall Art Show, DeKalb Annual Exhibition and many others. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Charles and Jack Ward. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Thaddeus R. Sobieski; sisters-in-law, Anna Sobieski and Gladys Ward; several nieces, nephews, her kind and caring caregiver, and a host of other friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22nd at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Dr. Frank H. Crumpler officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 1925 Century Blvd., N.E., Atlanta, GA 30345.
