Rosemary Mooney Skehan

Rosemary Mooney Skehan was born in Rumford, Maine in 1927 to Stephen J. and Annetta Kinch Mooney. She attended college at St. Elizabeth's in Convent Station, New Jersey, St. Joseph's College in Portland, Maine and Georgia State University. In 1949 she married James Remmes Skehan of Portland, Maine. He predeceased her in 1989. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Kelly Skehan, in 2006. She taught school at St. Thomas More in Decatur, Smokerise Elementary and twenty years as the7th grade teacher at Medlock Elementary. While at Medlock, Mrs. Skehan, was twice elected as teacher of the year and honored with lifetime membership in the PTA and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Decatur since 1958. Mrs. Skehan is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Shawn Skehan of Lilburn, James R. Jr. and Mary Ellen Skehan of Atlanta, Rob and Joanna Skehan of Decatur, daughter and son-in-law, Mollie and John Drury of Lawrenceville, niece, Mary Ann Skehan of Ridley Park, PA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Patrick, Kristen and Joe Skehan, Catie, Rosie and Remmie Drury as well as two great grandchildren Kelly Patrick and Norah Jean Skehan. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday, August 7 at 10:00 am with Fr. Brian Lorei celebrating. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Georgia (2625 Highway 212 SW, Conyers, GA 30094. There will be a rosary service at 7pm Monday with the family receiving friends on Monday from 6 to 8 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
