Mr. Beavers was born in Atlanta, GA where he attended Tech High School. He married Ellen Banks, of Newborn, GA, in 1940. After a tour in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, he returned to Atlanta to work as an electrician at Lawson Army Hospital and The Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, where he retired as Electrical Shop Supervisor in 1973. He married Linda Lee DeFreese in 1972. They built a home on Lake Lanier and became avid WBCCI Airstream Club members, traveling all over the United States and Mexico. They frequently visited the Airstream camp at Top of Georgia in Helen and wintered at Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne Florida. He was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Lynda Lee Beavers of Gainesville, GA and brother, Harold E. Beavers of Conyers. He is survived by his brother Marvin (Monk) Beavers of Roswell; sister Martha Jordan of Jonesboro; son Roy L. Beavers III of Decatur; step daughter Melissa Garrett of Atlanta; step son James DeFreese, Jr. of Temple; Grandchildren Amy Long, Amanda Beavers, Donald DeFreese, Lisa Dickson and Tom Farrell; eight great-grandchildren and untold friends. The family will receive friends beginning Friday, July 23 at 7:00 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur. Funeral service will be held at Turners on Saturday, July 24th at 10:00 AM and internment will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker following the service. The Family asks that, in lieu of flowers, those that wish to do so make a donation to The American Cancer Society in his memory.
