Roy Curtis Akin, 73, of Decatur died Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Mr. Akin served his country in the U. S. Air Force, and later the Georgia Air National Guard. He began his career flying in the Air Force and retired as a Captain from Eastern Airlines in 1989 after 30 years of enjoyable service. He was the founder and president of Akin Development Company. Mr. Akin was preceded in death by his son, Michael Curtis Akin and father, Roy Clyde Akin. Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years Peggy Martin Akin; daughter, Lee Ann Akin of Chattanooga, TN; mother, Mae England Akin; sister, Betty Akin McDaniel, both of Jasper; brother, Kenneth E. Akin of Tucker; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 1st at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
