Roy Earl Housworth

November 12, 1932 — May 9, 2008

Mr. Roy Earl Housworth, Jr., of Decatur, GA, passed away Friday, May 9, 2008.  He was born November 12, 1932 in DeKalb County to Roy Earl Housworth and Margaret Francis Kelley Housworth.  He was a descendent of one of the first settlers of DeKalb County.  Mr. Housworth served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY from 1951-1953. He graduated in 1959 from Georgia Tech with a Civil Engineering degree, and was a member of Chi Epsilon Honor Society. He was a self employed land surveyor for 46 years and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. As quoted by his son Barry "Daddy was a survivor, having battled back from heart surgery in 1993 and major cancer surgery in 2002.  He continued to work until his death."  His sense of humor and intelligence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joyce Housworth and brother, Wayne Housworth.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Bond Housworth; sons, Barry Housworth of Stone Mountain, and Mark Housworth of Conyers; and daughters, Bonnie Moore and her husband Dave of York, PA; Laura Arkeketa and her husband Tony of Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Toria Arkeketa, Kevin Moore and Scott Moore; sister, Dot Phiel; and brother, Jere Housworth.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 12th in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Tom Mozley officiating.  Interment at Kelley Chapel United Methodist Churchyard.  Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Pkwy., Suite 1, Marietta, GA  30067 or the American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Blvd., Atlanta, GA  30319. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
