Roy Richard Bowman

Roy Richard Bowman, 78, of Decatur lost his battle with cancer on Saturday May 25, 2013 while at home. Born in Charlotte, N.C. on May 15, 1935, the family moved to Atlanta in the late 1930's. Mr. Bowman was a 1954 graduate of Roosevelt High School, earned his law degree from John Marshall Law School, and served his country honorably as an M.P. in the National Guard. He retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Co in 1994 after 40 years of service. Mr. Bowman was an avid fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and managed the Coaches Gate at Grant Field for nearly 50 years. He loved the game of golf and began caddying as a boy at the Candler Golf Course in Atlanta. He shared this love for the game with his two sons, Wade and Andy, by taking them to play with him on the weekends. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mae Jo Shivers Bowman; his son, Wade Bowman and daughter-in-law, Carol and his granddaughters, Isabella and Rachel; and his son, Andy Bowman and daughter-in-law, Heather and his granddaughters, Taylor and Lilly Grace. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 28th with burial at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Monday May 27th at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
