Royal Emmons Vreeland

January 3, 1918 — March 17, 2008

Royel E. Vreeland (Roy) died Monday, March 17, 2008.  Born Jan. 3, 1918 in Chicago, IL, he was a World War II veteran and served with the U.S. Army in Europe.  Roy retired in 1982 after 23 years of service with Delta Airlines where he was a regional marketing manager and remained active with the Delta Pioneers.  He was an active member of the Metropolitan Fire Association and was instrumental in the development of Engine 880, a canteen service for firefighters, for which he was recognized by the City of Atlanta.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol A. Vreeland; and parents, Royel and Ruth Vreeland.  He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Brown and Jane Vreeland, both of Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law, Royel and Jan Vreeland of Stone Mountain and John and Michele Vreeland of Bonaire; grandchildren, Christopher and wife Anita Vreeland of Smyrna, Stephen Vreeland of Atlanta, Julie Vreeland of Atlanta, Michael Ianitello of Canton and Melissa Brewer of Bonaire; great grandchildren, Ashton, Emma, Alexandra, Anthony, Andrew, Kaylee, Isabella and Ryan; brother and sister-in-law, Burton L. and Doris Vreeland of Novato, CA; two nieces; and one nephew.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Living Grace Lutheran Church in Tucker,  with Pastor David Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Diabetes Association.  The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
