Ruby May Harper Fordham, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday the 16th of August 2011. Ruby was born to Mary Morris Harper and Byron F. Harper, and was raised in the Capital View area of Atlanta. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Byron Harper Jr.; and sisters Mildred Harper Weaver and Ruth Harper McConnell. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wade Edward Fordham; a son, Wade Edward Fordham Jr.; daughter Mary Lynne Nielson and her husband Douglas; and daughter Hannah Rebecca Perry and her husband James. She is also survived by three grandchildren, James Armond Perry III, Joy Elizabeth Perry, and Catherine Hope Perry of Houston, Texas; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Ruby lived an incredibly full life that was marked by her devotion to her Christian faith, family, and education. She graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Science. Ruby taught elementary education in the Atlanta public schools for 25 years, retiring in 1982. Ruby was member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church for 34 years. She began teaching Sunday School at age 14 and continued to teach children for 70 years.
The family will receive friends for visitation at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 20th, in The Chapel of Christian City, 7300 Lester Road, Union City, GA. The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. in The Chapel of Christian City.
