Ruby Lee McLane, 81, of Lilburn, Georgia passed away peacefully at DeKalb Medical Center on Wednesday June 17, 2015 surrounded by her family and dear friend of over 40 years, Lavinia Griffin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Arthur L. Cowan, of Clemson, South Carolina and her husband John Edward McLane, M.D. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Dale Teat (Charles), of Liberty, South Carolina; her daughter, Lisa E. Rutland (Blake) and her son, John P. McLane (Barbie), both of Lilburn, Georgia. Ruby Lee was the proud Nana of four beautiful granddaughters; Ashley Rutland, Lexi Rutland, Audrey McLane and Amelia Ruby McLane, named for her Nana. Ruby Lee McLane was born in Anderson, South Carolina on January 27, 1934. She attended Calhoun Clemson High School and was a graduate of Winthrop College. After completing her education she moved to Washington, D.C. to teach English at the CIA. She met her future husband, John, in Alexandria, Virginia and they were married on December 18, 1955. They were happily married for 48 wonderful years. Her passions were spending time with her family, grandchildren and being devoted to her church. She shared her spiritual life with many special ladies in The Joy Sunday School Class at Smoke Rise Baptist Church. She was an avid reader of funny mysteries, cookbooks and small town newspapers. Ruby Lee loved and rescued many animals and had a special affection for kitty cats. She had an amazing sense of humor and always provided laughter and happiness to those in her life. A memorial service will be held at Smoke Rise Baptist Church on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at 5901 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, Georgia 30087. The family will be receiving visitors in the Parlor an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers Ruby Lee's wishes were that memorial donations be made to Smoke Rise Baptist Church. The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, June 20, 2015 between 2-4 p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033.
