Mrs. Rubye Massey Carmichael passed away June 7th, 2007, at Hospice of Conyers. She was dearly loved by family and friends and was a beautiful lady, who was an inspiration to family and caretakers throughout her recent trials and illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Carmichael, Sr., and by her son James A. Carmichael, Jr. Mrs. Carmichael was born in Haralson County near Draketown on January 5th, 1908. After her marriage she and her husband lived in Rome, GA until 1935, at which time they moved to Atlanta and later Decatur. She had been ill following a fall in February of this year. Mrs. Carmichael was the daughter of Will and Molly White Massey, and was the youngest of six children. Her siblings were Neal, Claud, Walter, Bertha Westbrook and Velma Hudsputh. Survivors include a daughter, Frances C. Drake of Conyers; and four grandchildren, Sara Swanson of Decatur, Susan (Steve) Nielsen and Kathy (Kevin) Polk all of Good Hope, GA, and Geoff (Keely) Drake of Conyers; three great grandchildren, Erik Nielsen, Chris (Stepheni) Nielsen, all of Nashville, TN and Katie Drake of Conyers; also three nephews and other relatives. A graveside service is planned at the District Line Methodist Church, Saturday, June 9th at 11:00 A. M. with Revs. Terrell McBrayer and Wesley Forrester officiating. Burial arrangements are being handled by A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA.
