Ruth Adele Abt

Mrs. Ruth Adele Abt, 88, of Tucker, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 in her home after a heroic battle with cancer and heart disease.  She was born on March 13, 1928 in Queens, New York.  Ruth was the youngest of three daughters to George and Martha Haesler.  She married Richard M. Abt of Queens, New York on November 9, 1952.  Ruth was a dedicated homemaker, proud mother of two and involved with numerous church and community activities which brought her and others great joy and satisfaction.  As a long standing member of Saint Mark Lutheran Church, she enjoyed assisting with the various guilds and volunteering with the Saint Mark Lutheran Day Care from its conception. She loved flowers, travel and visits with family and friends from around the world. She is survived by her husband, Richard M. Abt; sister, Lillian Wright of Lilburn, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Beth Abt, Jr. of Ketchikan, Alaska and their daughter Fawn; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and John Ratliff, Jr. of New London, North Carolina and their children Danielle and Christopher.  She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Wood of Knoxville, Tennessee and grandson Michael Abt, son of Richard and Beth Abt, Jr.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Saint Mark Lutheran Church of Tucker, Georgia.  The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. and will conclude with interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens at noon with Pastor Hiruy Gebremichael officiating.  Arrangements are being made by A.S. Turner & Sons of Decatur, Georgia. The family requests that memorials be made to the Lutheran Friends of the Deaf, Mill Neck Family of Organizations, www.millneck.org , which Ruth was passionate about throughout her life.
