Mrs. Ruth Bennett Combs, age 91, of Decatur passed away gently in her sleep, Monday, June 4, 2007. She is survived by her sister, Sara Bennett McKibben Sledge of Tucker; brother-in-law, Henry C. Causey of Stone Mountain; son, James Edward Combs, Jr. of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Suzon and Sam Cassady of Buford; grandchildren, James Michael Combs of Atlanta, Jennifer Combs of Canton and Laura and Matt Clark of Canton; great grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler and Rachel Clark; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James "Jimmy" Edward Combs; daughter-in-law, Karin Baker Combs; sisters, Reba, Doris, Marguerite, Edith and Louise; and brothers, Earl and Guy. Ruth Combs was born November 4, 1916 in Edwardsville, AL. She and her late husband lived in Atlanta (DeKalb County) all of their married life. She was a member of Rainbow Park Baptist Church, DeKalb Federation of Garden Clubs, where she was a past president, Designers Club, where she was a junior judge, and the Jasmine Garden Club. She was an avid gardener who could grow anything. Her gentle Christian testimony was an inspiration to all that loved and cared for her. Suzon, Sam and Ed wish to extend love and honor to those, especially Goldie, Carol and Mary, who looked after Ruth so lovingly during her last years on earth. She would say to all, "Don't cry for me, I'm dancing with the angels". Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons on Friday, June 8th at 11 a.m., Rev. Mike Day officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church of Locust Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
