Ruth Parker Blalock Kugel was born August 19, 1921 and entered Heaven on August 24, 2017.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Decatur, Georgia where she graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School. She married James V. Blalock in 1942 and they enjoyed a loving marriage until his death in 1982.
Ruth worked for many years as a record keeper at the Sears Roebuck on Ponce De Leon Avenue. She stayed active with the retirees’ group for many years. She was an enthusiastic volunteer at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital where she spent many hours entertaining and comforting children. An active member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, her life revolved around her faith and her family. Ruth was an active member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the social interaction with her beloved friends. Ruth married Art Kugel in 1987 and they enjoyed traveling the world until his death in 2004.
She was a loving person who brought joy to the lives of everyone she met. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed traveling and playing cards. Throughout her life she shared a compassion for serving others and was a gracious and beautiful lady. Heaven truly has a new angel.
Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her surviving children: Janet Hobbins, Lynn Singleton and her husband, Gary, and James Parker Blalock and his wife, Becky; surviving step children: Bill Kugel and his wife, Pam, Linda Hutto and Nancy Martin and her husband, Bob;
surviving grandchildren: Dawn Hobbins, Brian Hobbins and his wife, Mendy, Tracy Campbell, Kimberly Lowe and her husband, Jason, Jeremy Singleton and his wife, Amy, Justin Singleton and his wife, Catherine, and Alexandria Blalock; surviving great grandchildren: Brett Campbell, Morgan Hobbins, Madison Henry, Ryker Lowe, Kellen and Kasen Singleton, and Sadie Lowe; and surviving great-great grandchild: Amelia Hobbins. She is survived by sisters-in-law: Leona Brown, Becky Everett, Hazel Rysavy and Sandra Blalock Langford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Orpheus and Minnie Garrett Carter Parker, and her husbands, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Ernie Blalock.
Her life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 27 from 3-5 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons, in Decatur. A memorial service honoring her will also be held at the First Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia on Monday, August 28th at 1 PM.
