Ruth Kathleen Bell Peterman, a remarkable and caring lady, was born at home in Maxeys, GA in April, 1932. At the age of 91, she embarked on her journey to her heavenly home, leavingbehind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished.
Throughout her life, Ruth assumed many names that captured the essence of her nurturing spirit: Rufus, Mom, Mama, and cherished friend. Her heart was always devoted to her three children, Debbie, Robyn, Bobby, their families, and her adoring grandchildren: Austin, Heather, Mitch, Hannah and her great grandchildren: Alden and Aaron.
Ruth's battles with Alzheimer's and Macular Degeneration spanned over 15 years, two
relentless thieves that gradually stole away both the memories and visions of the loved ones she held dear. Nevertheless, amidst the challenges she faced, Ruth remained resilient, her unwavering strength shining through as she continued to shower those who visited her with expressions of love and affection.
While Alzheimer's and MD may have been a part of her journey, they certainly did not define Ruth. Originating from a small town, she ventured to Atlanta with her loving husband Bob in 1950, embracing the opportunities the city offered for her family. Ruth was a social and engaging woman, and her professional career of over 35 years at Emory University Hospital exemplified her selflessness and dedication. She consistently placed the happiness of others before her own, finding her own joy in witnessing the happiness she brought to those around her.
Above all, Ruth was a wonderful mother. In her earlier years, she tirelessly worked two jobs to support her family, all while finding time to sew clothes for her children. She was also well known in the neighborhood and family gatherings for preparing mouthwatering dishes such as mac and cheese, lemon pie, brownies, and homemade soup. Her nurturing presence and culinary talents created a warm and loving home for her family, leaving cherished memories that will endure for generations to come.
As we reflect upon Ruth's life, let us remember her as a beacon of love, strength, and
selflessness. Her impact on the lives she touched is immeasurable, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. In celebrating her life, let us find solace in the knowledge that she has found eternal peace in a much better body and place and may her spirit continue to inspire us to love unconditionally and give selflessly, just as she did.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents George and Olga, husband Robert, brother George Jr.(Jeanette) and sister Sarah. She is survived by children Debbie Harper(Mike), Robyn Anderson(Brad), Bobby Peterman(Angie) and grandchildren Austin(Amy), Mitch, Heather, Hannah and great grandchildren, Alden and Aaron.
