Ruth M. Golley slipped the bonds of the physical world Thursday, October 9, 2008. Ruth will be remembered for her laughter, her smile, her energy and her enjoyment of life. She lived with a devastating cancer diagnosis for three years. Her journey showed her enormous energy, love, determination and enthusiasm for life, her family, her friends and her garden. Ruth leaves behind her husband, Frank; two amazing sons, Stuart and Peter; her parents, H.T. and Alice Maclin; sisters, Susie and Cathie; and brother, Greg. Born in Dallas, TX, Ruth was raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Her family returned to the States and moved to Stone Mountain where she graduated from high school. She attended LaGrange College for one year and graduated from Emory University in 1979. Ruth and Frank were married the same year. Her professional career began with technical writing with several firms. She transitioned into her own business writing and producing business publications and as a freelance contributing writer to the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. She then began her most significant job of motherhood and raising her wonderful boys. Twelve years ago Ruth entered real estate and won the award, Rookie of the Year from the DeKalb Board of Realtors. Her energy and enthusiasm for her business and her clients combined to place her consistently in the upper tier each year. She was a life-time member of the Million Dollar Club; Top Producing Agent, DeKalb Board of Realtors; active member of the National Women's Council of Realtors; Top 100 Realtors, Communities Magazine; and Atlanta Top Real Estate Agent, Atlanta Magazine. Ruth was a constant and enthusiastic community volunteer--she served as chairman of the pre-school committee, and for several years organized the vacation bible school at Decatur First United Methodist Church. Ruth was a member of the Decatur Preservation Alliance and was instrumental in raising funds to save the Decatur Train Depot by initiating and organizing the Barbecue Blues and Bluegrass Festival. Recently Ruth joined the Board of the DeKalb Medical Foundation. Ruth lived life with passion, determination, enthusiasm and caring. With her passing the sun will burn a little less brightly. Her memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, October 12th, at Grace
United Methodist Church, 458 Ponce de Leon Ave. A reception in her garden will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the DeKalb Medical Foundation,
