Ruth Morgan Newsom, age 82, died April 10, 2005 following a stroke. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, James Young Newsom. Ruth was born in Deering, GA to Marcus E. Morgan, Sr. and Neelie Chappalear Morgan, graduated Girls' High in Atlanta, and attended Atlanta Bible Institute and Columbia Bible College. Over the years Ruth lived her faith among several church families; Cruselle-Freeman Church of the Deaf, Briarcliff Baptist Church, First Alliance Church and Rehoboth Baptist Church. A longtime member of the Georgia Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, she was an esteemed and devoted sign language interpreter, both as a professional and a volunteer serving in legal, medical, educational, social, employment and church settings. She was a gifted and generous teacher of sign. Her joys in life were her Christian faith, her family, her many diverse friendships and her beloved community of the deaf and hearing-impaired. She is survived by her children, Mark William Newsom and Susan,Mary Jane Newsom, Daniel Reed Newsom, Sr., Jo Newsom Pelletier and Bill, and Rebecca Newsom; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her Morgan family; and her loving friends. The family will receive callers 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Wed., April 13th, and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thurs., April 14th at A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd. Funeral services will be Friday, April 15th at 10:30 a.m. at First Alliance Church, 2512 N. Druid Hills Rd., with reception following at the church, and private burial.
