Ruth Watkins Scrivener, 90, of Tucker passed away on October 2, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Richard Everett and Grace Thomas Watkins. Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, her family returned to Alabama where she grew up in Madison and Huntsville. After graduating from Huntsville High School, she moved with her family to Washington D.C. in the 1930's. In 1945, she married James Earle Scrivener of Alexandria, Virginia. They were married for 26 years until his death. She was a stay at home mother to their one daughter, and later worked for the Department of the Army as a Budget Analyst. She moved to Atlanta in 1981 to join her daughter and family. She was a devoted grandmother and care giver to her two grandsons. She was also an accomplished seamstress, and a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves. She was preceded in death by her husband James Earle Scrivener, and her brother Richard Everett Watkins, II. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Marc Sorenson, and her 2 grandsons Eric and Michael, all of Atlanta, Georgia; also a nephew and niece, and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. (CDT) Friday, October 5th at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA.
